This is a soft slab mug. It is about 4-5 inches tall, with a tree type wood pattern around the body. It has a slab handle affixed to the side of the mug where the clay was joined together to form the body. It has a uneven coat of orange over the entire piece. The different amounts of glaze helps bring out the detail in the "wood grain" around the cup. I used a method of miniature coils to help attach the handle to the cup by pinching them together where the two join. Overall, the project is a nice, simple piece, however it is obvious that I did not do a adequate job at constructing the handle.
This is a basket coil pot. It is about 10 inches tall, encompassing the three interpretative coils on the top. It is composed of a pinch pot base, with coils on top, then the three curved coils above. It has an array of 4 colors that transition from top to bottom. Along the pinch pot base, is a half done brick pattern to show a warn effect of a building. I learned how to combine two colors, white and scrap, to make the light blue that is on the base. Overall, for a project that had no plan, it turned out pretty nice. This interpretive coil basket could serve as a good centerpiece with a variety of decorating ideas for inside.
